Our Teaching Methods
At Arthur Murray, we offer a three-tiered approach to teaching you.
Private Lessons
The private lesson is where you will be taught 1 on 1 with an instructor. We will teach you leading/following, which dances go with which music, and how to stylize your dancing so that you do not look stiff or boring. We teach all of our students how to become rhythmical and musical. We do not want you to look like you are taking dance lessons!
Group Classes
The group class is where you learn your patterns. It is also where you switch partners and begin to build your confidence by doing so. The group class allows you meet other students. Please ask us how to get free classes.
Practice Sessions
The Practice session is where you put what you learned in the private and group together. The practice session is where you try your dancing with others on a crowded floor. This is where you learn to be a “social dancer.” A man learns to “drive in traffic,” and a lady must respond to a multitude of follows. Our practice sessions are chaperoned by our instructors and is a members only experience. This gives you the thrill of a nightclub without smoking and drinking.
